OSHA Recordkeeping Deadlines and Penalties for 2026
The yearly calendar
- Within 7 calendar days of learning about a recordable case: enter it on the 300 log and fill in a 301 (1904.29(b)(3)).
- By February 1: post the certified 300A where employee notices go, and keep it up until April 30 (1904.32(b)(6)).
- By March 2: submit the 300A — and, for establishments that must, 300 and 301 case data — through OSHA's Injury Tracking Application (1904.41(c)).
- Keep for 5 years after the end of the year the records cover (1904.33).
Penalties
OSHA's penalties page lists the current maximum as $16,550 per serious or other-than-serious violation and $165,514 per willful or repeated violation (checked October 27, 2026). Recordkeeping violations are cited like any other standard.
Who must keep records
Employers with more than 10 employees at any time in the last calendar year, outside the partially exempt industries listed in Appendix A to subpart B (1904.1). Records are kept per establishment.
Safetally's summary shows each of these dates for the year you're working on, and whether each establishment must submit electronically.
